Code Bites: Azure SQL Server Geo-Replication With PowerShell - ASM vs. ARM

Azure Resource Manager or ARM is the de facto standard of deploying and managing Azure resources. Still, many people are coming from an ASM background and are now transitioning to ARM. Usually there is a correspondence between ASM and ARM PowerShell cmdlets - you just insert 'Rm' to the original ARM command name and you are good to go.

There are cases where cmdlet names and parameters have changed significantly and geo-replication is an example of that. With ASM one would use Start-AzureSqlDatabaseCopy while New-AzureRmSqlDatabaseSecondary must be used with ARM.

What follows is a comparison on how you can enable geo-replication with ASM vs ARM.
